It can be a bit tricky to keep track of all of them and all release dates, so here’s a list over the MAC collections that are being released during 2011, the list will be updated continuosly when I get more information about new collection. Here is a complete list over all the collections released in 2010.

Idag fick jag äntligen information från MAC med svenska prisuppgifter på produkterna i årets julkollektion, A Tartan Tale. Kollektionen kom upp i diskarna igår och delar av kollektionen finns att köpa på kicks.se från och med idag, men jag tänkte att det kan vara av intresse med prisuppgifter ändå eftersom det är många som har frågat om detta.
Jag uppdaterar de separata kollektionsinläggen med de svenska prisuppgifterna med, men här är alltså ett litet samlingsinlägg. Observera att samtliga priser är cirkapriser, i butik kan priset diffa med någon femma eller så.

In English: I got some press info from MAC with the Swedish prices for the products in the holiday collection, A Tartan Tale, that was released yesterday at Swedish MAC counters.
Imorse var jag på event hos MAC i Studio Rex lokaler på Odengatan i Stockholm för att kika lite på deras hösttrender från catwalken och hur de har förts över till kändisarna på röda mattan. På plats var MACs senior makeup artist Gregory Arlt som har jobbat för märket i 18 år och har sminkat Hollywoodkändisar som Dita von Teese, Minnie Driver, Sienna Miller med flera. Numera lär han även ut sin “red carpet master class” till makeupartister över hela världen.

Gregory började med att berätta lite om höstens tre makeuptrender från MAC och hur dessa har förts över från catwalkens ganska extrema variant till en lite mjukare och mer bärbar variant på röda mattan, och demonstrerade sedan dessa looker på tre olika modeller. De tre trenderna heter Redd Velvet, Satin eyes och Cahsmink.
Redd VelvetRöda eller färgstarka läppar står i fokus. Ett matt, neutralt ansikte ihop med ett par röda läppar, markerade bryn ihop med röda läppar eller en 80-talskänsla med glossiga röda läppar är tre olika varianter på den här trenden.

Satin Eyes
Grafiska ögonmakeuper, rockiga “messy” sotningar, eller klassiskt sotade ögon är tre olika varianter på det här temat.
The model is wearing one of my all time favourite MAC eyeshadows, Satin Taupe. Gregory adds the last touch to the look by applying Smolder eye kohl along the lower lash line.

Varma, mjuka toner, en “no makeup”-look med contouring och highlighting med mycket glow i fokus är tanken bakom cashmink-temat.

Jag passade även på att fråga ut Gregory om några av hans bästa sminktips:
Hur skapar du den perfekta basen? - Jag börjar gärna med en primer, prep + prime skin är suverän och fungerar lite som ett klister för basen. Jag gillar att använda olika foundations till olika hudtyper, min favorit just nu för torr hy är att blanda ut vår foundation Studio sculpt med några droppar Care blend oils för att få en mjuk, återfuktande bas som inte ser kakig ut, som jag applicerar med min favoritfoundationborste #190. Jag fixerar den sedan med ett bakat mineralpuder, Mineralize skinfinish natural.
Föredrar du brynskugga eller brynpenna? - Definitivt skugga! Skugga ger ett mjukare resultat, är lättare att arbeta precist med och färgar även huden under brynen för en mer definierad form.
Vad är dina bästa tips för perfekta röda läppar? - Grunda med ett tunt lager foundation på läpparna för att matta av den egna läppfärgen något, detta för att den röda färgen ska bli så intensiv som möjligt. Sedan pudrar jag längs med läpplinjen för att definiera läpparnas form, fyller i hela läpparna med en läppenna och målar slutligen på läppstift med pensel #231.
Vilken är din favorit bland ögonskuggspenslar? - Oj, jag har ju flera! Men skulle jag bara få välja tre skulle jag säga #252, en platt pensel i en blandning av syntet och äkta hår för att packa på färg, #224, en fluffig pensel till att tona och applicera färg i globlinjen, och slutligen #266, en platt snedskuren pensel för att fylla i ögonbrynen och måla eyeliner.

In English: This morning, I went to a MAC event at Studio Rex in Stockholm to have a peek at their fall trends from the catwalk and how they have been transferred to the celebreties on the red carpet. MAC senior makeup artist Gregory Arlt held the presentation, he has worked for the brand for the past 18 years and is the man behind the makeup on Holywood celebreties such as Dita von Teese, Minnie Driver, Sienna Miller among others. He also teaches his “red carpet master class” to makeup artists all over the world.
Gregory started out with telling us about the fall makeup trends from MAC and how they have been interpreted on the red carped to a softer and more wearable look, and then demonstrated these three looks on three models. The three trends are called Redd velvet, Satin eyes and Cashmink.
Redd Velvet – red or colourful lips are in focus. A matte, neutral face together with a pair of red lips, defined brows with a pair of red lips or an 80′s look with glossy red lips are three varieties of this trend.
Satin eyes – Graphic eye makeup, rocky and “messy” smoky eyes or classic smoky eyes are three different varieties on this theme.
Cashmink – Warm, soft tones, a “no makeup” look with contouring and highlighting with a lot of glow in focus is the thought behind the cashmink theme.
I also took the opportunity to ask Gregory about some of his best makeup tips:
How do you create the perfect base? - I like to use a primer first, prep + prime skin is great and works like velcro for the foundation. I like to use different types of foundation for different skin types, my favourite right now for dry skin is to mix our Studio sculpt foundation with a few drops Care blend oils to get a soft, moisturising base that doesn’t look cakey, that I apply with my favourite foundation brush #190. I then set it with a baked mineral powder, Mineralize skinfinish natural. Do you prefer a brow shadow or a pencil? - Definitely shadow! Shadow gives a softer result, is easier to work with for a precise result and also tints the skin for a more defined shape.
What are your best tips for perfect red lips? - Start out with a thin layer of foundation on the lips to soften the natural lip colour a bit, to get the red shade as true as possible. I then powder along the lip line to define the shape of the lips, fill in the entire lips with a pencil and finally apply the lipstick with brush #231. Which is your favourite eyeshadow brush? - Oh, I got several! But if I could only choose three, I would say #252, a flat brush with a mix of natural and synthetic bristles to pack on colour, #224, a fluffy brush to blend and apply colour in the crease, and finally #266, a flat angled brush to fill in the eyebrows and apply eyeliner.
How do you feel about these makeup trends? Which is your favourite? I honestly can’t choose between the three, they are all gorgeous and really wearable!

I pressinfon stod det den 4:e oktober, men det vanliga släpptatumet här i Sverige brukar vara den 8:e varje månad. Jag mailade MAC och frågade om detta och fick förtydligandet att MAC ska ha event på kollektionen i Köpenhamn den 4:e, i resten av norden släpps kollektionen den 8:e som vanligt. Så här i Sverige är det den 8:e som gäller att hänga på låset, med andra ord!
In English: Some of my swedish readers have wondered about the wierd release date for MAC collection Venomous Villains. The press info said october 4th, but the release date is usually on the 8th each month here in Sweden. I e-mailed MAC and asked about this, and they clarified that MAC will hold an event for this collection in Copenhagen on october 4th, the rest of the nordic counters will have the collection up on the counters at october 8th as per usual. Just a small heads up!

In English: Last week, I got a press release from MAC with collection infofor this fall’s probably most hyped makeup collection – Venomous Villains. MAC Venomous Villains will be released on October 8th at all Nordic MAC counters. I’ll buy more items from this huge collection at the release date, I’ll be back with more swatches and product pictures after the release date!
I’m really curious – what are you planning on getting from this collection? I will probably get Bite of an apple blush, Toxic tale lipstick, Strange potion lipglass, Bad fairy nail lacquer and Heartless lipstick, we’ll have to see if something else catches my eye when I’m drooling at the MAC counter on October 4th!

Det har varit mycket skriverier om MACs samarbete med Rodarte de senaste månaderna runt om på nätet (läs mer om varför här). Efter mycket ramaskri över produktnamn som ansågs vara stötande lyssnade MAC på sina fans och bestämde sig för att ändra namnen på en del av produkterna i kollektionen, och nu har de alltså även beslutat att dra tillbaka kollektionen helt. Så här lyder MACs uttalande på deras facebooksida:

Vad tycker ni – borde MAC ha släppt kollektionen med ändrade produktnamn, eller är det bra att dom drar tillbaka kollektionen helt?
In English: there have been a lot of buzzing around the internet the last few months over the MAC collaboration with Rodarte (read more about it here). After a lot of complaints about the product names that offended some people, MAC listened to their fans and decided to change the names of some of the products in the collection, and now they have decided to pull the collection entirely. You can read MAC’s statement from their facebook page above.
What do you think – should MAC have released the collection with changed product names, or is it a good thing that the collection is being pulled?
Jag fick tillfälle att maila med Berit, PR-ansvarig för MAC Nordic, i veckan angående varför vi inte har Back2MAC i Sverige eller i något av de andra nordiska länderna, något jag har varit väldigt nyfiken på ett tag eftersom vi i Sverige är så himla bra på återvinning. Jag fick ett snabbt svar av Berit som förklarade läget väldigt bra:
“The back to MAC phenomena is unfortunately only possible in markets where we have MAC self owned free standing stores. In the Nordic countries our shopping culture is more based on department stores and perfumeries where we have MAC counters at a retailer. The whole back to MAC requires an ability to get the products back to the stores and hereafter back to our mother plants and recycled, which in our case is not possible to do through a retailer. It would perhaps even be non environmental good, due to geography and logistic challenges. The used product containers need to be handled and hereafter travel to far in order to get recycled.
As we are a growing market it is of course something that will be looked upon in the future. And who knows? – Future wise we might get it in Nordic.”
Det blir med andra ord till att fortsätta att åka utomlands, till exempel över Östersjön till MAC-diskarna i Tallinn och Helsingfors (Estland och Finland har bara en MAC-disk vardera, det är därför dom kan administrera Back2MAC där) tills vi får en fristående eller PRO-butik här i Sverige om man vill återvinna sina tomma förpackningar mot ett gratis läppstift. Men det ger ju å andra sidan en bra orsak att få passa på att åka utomlands, eller hur?

We will have to continue travelling abroad in other words, for example to the MAC counters in Tallinn and Helsinki (Estonia and Finland only have one MAC counter each, so that’s why they’re able to have Back2MAC over there) until we get a freestanding or PRO store here in Sweden if you want to exchange your empty packaging for a free lipstick. But on the other hand, it’s a good reason to get to travel more often, right?

In English: After several years of rumours, MAC will finally launch a collection in collaboration with Disney – Venomous Villains – according to WWD.
The collection will launch on all locations in September, and will contain products inspired by four Disney villains. Which ones these will be is still kept a secret by MAC, but yesterday they released an official preview video on their website with some clues.
Can you guess which villains that will be featured in the collection? =) My guesses are: *SPOILER* Cruella de Vil (from One hundred and One dalmatians), Maleficent (from Sleeping Beauty), Queen (from Snow White) and Doctor Facilier (from The princess and the frog). *SPOILER* Lipstick, powder, lip gloss and blush shades will be sold, ranging in price from $12 to $29.50.
